Our Ceramic Coating Process

This is where it all starts a perfectly clean slate for optimal coating bond. Before we ever touch a polisher or apply a coating your vehicle goes through a meticulous prep process that strip away oils, dirt and grim and most importantly bonded contamination such as minerals, industrial fallout and iron particles.
- Strip Wash & Hand Wash
- Iron, Tar, Mineral Treatment
- Clay bar treatment for deeper imbedded contamination
Your coating will not bond correctly or last the advertised duration without essential prep. We do it the right way, every time.
Every ceramic coating package includes a basic level of paint correction/machine polishing, even brand new vehicles. This will add depth, clarity and gloss while also refine the surface of any minor scratching and swirling.
If heavier defect removal is required then additional charges can apply for a multi-stage paint correction.

A ceramic coating is a long-term protection option for vehicle owners. When applied correctly, the coating chemically bonds to surfaces to form a long lasting protective barrier. It enhances gloss, repels water, resists UV damage and makes maintenance easier by preventing dirt, grime and contamination accumulate or stick as easily.
Absolutely—especially in high-altitude environments like Buena Vista. Our thinner atmosphere greatly increase UV exposure which rapidly fades and degrades a vehicle’s unprotected surfaces.

Most professional grade ceramic coatings, like those installed here at Washlab, when prepped and applied correctly can last anywhere from 2-8+ years — but longevity depends heavily on how the vehicle is cared for and used.

These lifespans are based upon proper maintenance including:

Ceramic coatings are very durable and designed for long-term protection of your vehicle but are not “set it and forget it.” They do require maintenance (washing) to experience ultimate performance and longevity out of your protection.
NO, this is often a misconception with a ceramic coating. It will make washing much easier and less frequent but ultimately washing is still required especially for best performance and longevity.
One of the biggest misconceptions and myths about ceramic coatings is their scratch and chip resistance. While they do cure to a hardness level that is far greater than your vehicles factory clear coat, they are still prone to damage.
A ceramic coating will help prevent very minor scratching/swirling that can happen during normal washing and drying of a vehicle over time.
A ceramic coating will NOT prevent rock chips or deeper scratches from happening, period.
To get the best performance and longevity from your coating we recommend cleaning your vehicle every 1-3 months or anytime it’s visibly dirty. This really all depend on how the vehicle gets used driven.
Try not to let road film, grime and bugs just sit on surfaces for weeks on end but remove in a timely manner.
Regular maintenance of your ceramic coating will keep it performing it’s best and ensure your protection lasts for years to come.

We even offer a 4-pack of coating maintenance washes during your initial install for $200, any size vehicle. Good for 1 full year, ideally, one wash would be used every 3 months for 1 year.
Our Annual Pro Maintenance service is designed to help your ceramic coating perform at its best and extend its lifespan — especially in Colorado’s tough environment.
Over time, even ceramic coated vehicle will accumulate mineral deposits, iron fallout, road film and other contaminants that can reduce the coatings performance, slickness and water-repelling abilities. This service will remove the built up contamination and restore day 1 performance to your ceramic coating.
This service includes:
- Detailed hand wash & decontamination
- Iron and Mineral removal bath
- Coating health check
- Application of coating booster/topper spray
While this service is NOT required, it’s strongly recommended once a year for anyone serious about getting the most out of their coating protection. If performed annually, this can help extend your coating well beyond its advertised lifespan.
Absolutely, a ceramic coating is the best protection for most any type of vehicle from classics to new.
On older or used vehicles the price will vary, typically more paint correction will be needed to get the surfaces in good shape before the coating is applied but this isn’t always the case. Reach out to us for a free evaluation or consultation of your older or used vehicle.
Depending on level of service and condition of vehicle/paint, ceramic coating typically takes 1-3 days. This includes prep, paint correction, coating application and curing time.
Generally, most coating jobs are done in 24 hours unless further paint correction is needed/desired or interior coatings are installed.
